Client:

Location:
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Service:
Transportation Engineering
Project Overview
The project involves preparing the preliminary engineering study and final design, and providing construction oversight for a bridge construction over the Florida Power and Light (FPL) Discharge Canal in Port Everglades, Broward County. Incidental to bridge construction is construction of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) approach embankments, stabilization of existing ground to support the requisite MSE walls and embankments, the demolition and reconstruction of metal buildings, rehabilitation of a seawall, the necessary environmental assessment and permitting. The 5-span 240 feet long bridge is comprised of AASHTO Type III beams on 24 inch square prestressed concrete pile bents. The bridge is designed to accommodate the high truck volumes of the port, and as such is tapered at one end to facilitate a 50 foot vehicle turning radius. Insofar the bridge crosses a navigable coastal waterway, the United States Coast Guard has permitting jurisdiction over the bridge. The canal is part of a manatee habitat.
