The Village of Key Biscayne is located in the center of a four-mile-long, two-mile-wide barrier island with predominantly flat topography and low-lying roadway elevations ranging from approximately 3.5 – 6.0 feet above Mean Sea Level (MSL). EAC performed a Storm Water Master Plan (SWMP) Update and a High Tides Mitigation Project. The SWMP Update was completed to identify the severity of flooding that would occur during various storm events. After the Master Plan Update, EAC designed storm drainage infrastructure improvements and performed construction administration services for the High Tide Mitigation Project. This work comprised of infrastructure upgrades and backflow preventer installation at all the Village storm water outfalls to prevent flooding caused by King Tides and Sea Level Rise.
EAC’s report was the benchmark for the Village being able to secure $100 Million in bonds to address resiliency projects. As a result of our work with the Village, we were also awarded a contract to perform beach restoration and renourishment services using design standards set by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
