Resiliency and Sustainability
Project Overview
  • Flood Mitigation
  • Long-term Flood Control
  • Automated Flood Control Structures to Remotely Control Conveyance

S-197 is a four-barreled, cast-in-place concrete box culvert structure with slide gates, and was originally built in 1969 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The structure was operated manually and needed to be upgraded in order to provide remote operation and flexibility in managing water conveyance. EAC provided design and construction management services to protect this vital infrastructure. The gate automation design involved structural operational enhancements to allow for remote access capabilities – including SCADA, stilling well platforms, and a new control building. The platforms and control building’s finished floor elevations were made more resilient by designing to standards above the normal average high-water elevations – to avoid flooding during large storms.
