The Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT) improvements project required the design, widening, and reconstruction of the SR 821/HEFT and Campbell Drive to accommodate future capacity, operational, and safety improvements. The project included a new westbound exit ramp at Campbell Drive to the northbound HEFT interchange ramp, widening of the existing southbound SR 821/HEFT off-ramp to two-lanes, widening of the SR 821/HEFT to accommodate the ramp improvements, and signal and turn lane improvements on Campbell Drive. The project also included upgrading the guardrails at the bridge approaches, installation of new pier protection barriers at the Campbell Drive overpass bridges, replacement of the aluminum railing on all bridges, new noise walls, and analyses of the existing mast arms to determine whether backplates could be retrofitted, and if they could handle the current design wind speed criteria.
